COMMITTEE DESCRIPTIONS:
GENERAL ASSEMBLY
• DISEC:
The disarmament and international security committee is the first committee of the United Nations general assembly. DISEC deals with topics that centers on global issues and threats to peace that jeopardize international security.
• SOCHUM:
The Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee (SOCHUM) is the third General Assembly of the United Nations, tasked with a broad mandate surrounding social, humanitarian and human rights issues from around the world.
ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL:
• UN WOMEN:
UN Women is the global champion for gender equality working to develop and uphold standards, and create an environment in which every woman can exercise her human rights. We are trusted partners for advocates and decision-makers, from all walks of life, and a leader in the effort to achieve gender equality and women empowerment.
• UNHRC:
The United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a United Nations System inter-governmental body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world.
REGIONAL COMMITTEES:
• PNA:
Pakistan has a bi-cameral parliamentary system consisting of two houses out of which the National assembly (lower house) is elected directly by the citizens. The legislators are responsible for enacting the federal laws of the land .It is the primary purpose of the members of this legislative body to keep a check over the executive’s performance and the policies.
Specialized Committee:
• UNSC:
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations, charged with the maintenance of international peace and security as well as accepting new members to the United Nations and approving any changes to its United Nations Charter. Its powers include the establishment of peacekeeping operations, the establishment of international sanctions, and the authorization of military action through Security Council resolutions; it is the only UN body with the authority to issue binding resolutions to member states.
